Mar Roxas will run for Senate — Drilon

Former Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II will be making a comeback in the political arena; this time, at the Senate.

Senate Minority Leader and Liberal Party (LP) Senator Franklin Drilon confirmed this to INQUIRER.net on Monday.

“Yes,” Drilon answered in a text message when asked if Roxas will run for senator in the 2019 midterm elections.

Roxas took a break from the limelight after he lost to President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 elections.

INQUIRER.net has sought confirmation from Roxas, but he has yet to respond as of posting time.

But in a Facebook video posted earlier in the day, the former presidential aspirant hinted his return to public office, saying he is prepared to “offer” himself to the country.

“Kung sa tingin nyo, makakatulong pa ako, handa ako. Inooffer ko muli ang sarili ko sa inyo. At hinihingi ko rin ang tulong niyo dahil hindi ko kaya ito nang nag-iisa (If you think I can still help, I am ready. I am offering myself again to public service. I am asking for your help because I can’t do this alone),” Roxas said.

“And so here we are, I don’t have any quit in me, and I won’t quit on our country,” he continued.

The LP has been convincing Roxas to run for senator, according to Drilon. /ee
