‘First Love’ opens today in nationwide cinemas

The much anticipated romantic movie “First Love” which marks the first team-up of Aga Muhlach and Bea Alonzo is slated to open today in nationwide cinemas. This is expected to be a blockbuster at the tills considering the popularity of both the lead stars.

Aga said he waited a long time to work with Bea Alonzo, an actress he has long admired. Aga said he has taken notice of Bea’s rise to fame, noting how good she was in every film project given her. Bea expressed the same sentiments about “Kuya Aga,” and that is why she did not have second thoughts accepting to do “First Love.” And especially so because multi-awarded Paul Soriano is the director.

“First Love” is Direk Paul’s newest big screen project and he is expected to give moviegoers a different experience on love. And if he feels so fulfilled with this movie, it’s because he realized his dream to work with Aga, saying with great pride “I have earned the right to direct Aga, which was my dream ever since I was a young kid.”

This is Aga’s first love story after almost eight years. In an interview, Aga expressed that his character in “First Love” is something he has not done before and is more than excited to share with the world. Meanwhile, this is Bea’s second love story project this year following her impressive portrayal in the much-talked about “Kasal,” which was shown in May 2018.

The story of “First Love” revolves around Nick (played by Aga), a calculated and reserved businessman; and Ali (played by Bea), an impulsive but optimistic photographer. They first met in one of the cinematic streets in Vancouver, Canada after saving the life of a stranger.

While Nick seeks closure for his past mistakes, and Ali continues to be hopeful despite living with a congenital heart disease and being on the wait-list for a heart transplant, they challenge life’s setbacks together by seizing the moment (“Carpe Diem”), taking risks, and ultimately giving each other a new lease on life.

“First Love” showcases a different Aga and Bea. Joining them in the cast are Edward Barber, playing Nick’s godson; Albie Casino, playing Ali’s brother; and Sandy Andolong, who plays Ali’s mother.

At the recent Mediacon for the movie, the stars were asked to define first love. Aga said first love makes one a different person...and philosophizing a little, also said “love now, not tomorrow; it’s about the moment; you want life, live now…”

Bea on the other hand said first love is pure, “nagmamahal ka, hindi ka naghahanap ng kapalit...love involves sacrifice, you just want him to be happy. Actually, mahirap i-define ang Love…”

The journey of Nick and Ali in “First Love” proves that love is as equally present in quiet moments and small details ad much as it is in grand gestures.

“First Love” is produced by Ten17P, ABS-CBN Films-Star Cinema and Viva Films.
