ABS-CBN, GMA sustain increased television ratings




The country’s two largest broadcasting networks both sustained higher television ratings nationwide in September.


ABS-CBN Corp. said it recorded an average audience share of 44 percent and a double digit lead gainst GMA Network Inc.’s 33 percent, according to data from Kantar Media.


Like in the previous months, ABS-CBN’s primetime block attracted more viewers as it scored an average audience share of 47 percent, 13 points higher than GMA’s 34 percent.


ABS-CBN also led in Metro Manila households, where it scored an average audience share of 41 percent against GMA’s 28 percent.


In Total Luzon, ABS-CBN got 39 percent against GMA’s 36 percent and in Total Visayas where it garnered 53 percent against GMA’s 25 percent.

Eight of the 10 highest rated programs in September were from ABS-CBN, led by perennial ratings champion, FPJ's Ang Probinsyano with an average national rating of 43.3 percent.


Variety show It’s Showtime is still the most watched noontime show in the country with a national TV rating of 41.5% on weekdays and 39.5% on Saturdays, against its rival Eat Bulaga which only got 40.2% on weekdays and 36.5% on Saturdays, ABS-CBN said.

Also in the top 10 were TV Patrol, Ngayon at Kailanman, Halik, Tonight with Boy Abunda, Bandila, Meteor Garden, MMK, Rated K, I Can See Your Voice, Gandang Gabi Vice, ASAP, Sana Dalawa ang Puso, new Kapamilya late-morning drama series Playhouse, Asintado, Araw GabiWansapanataym and Home Sweetie Home.

GMA, meanwhile, maintained its lead in the nationwide television ratings competition based on the latest data from the industry’s widely-trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

For the month of September, GMA posted an average total day people audience share of 41.1 percent in the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM), beating ABS-CBN’s 37.1 percent.

The Kapuso Network emerged as the viewers’ top choice as it continued to lead across all day parts. In the morning block, GMA registered 38.2 percent people audience share versus ABS-CBN’s 34.3 percent.

GMA remained undefeated in the afternoon block after tallying 41.2 percent while ABS-CBN managed to get 37.1 percent.

Likewise in the evening block, GMA again led competition with 42.2 percent against ABS-CBN’s 38.3 percent.

GMA garnered an average total day people audience share of 46.7 percent in Urban Luzon versus ABS-CBN’s 30.8 percent.

Similarly in Mega Manila, the network posted an average total day people audience share of 48.6 percent, which was largely ahead of ABS-CBN’s 27.9 percent.

More GMA shows also made it to NUTAM's list of top-rating programs with Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) still the most watched Kapuso program nationwide.

Following KMJS were The Clash, 24 Oras, Pepito Manaloto, Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko, Magpakailanman, Onanay, Victor Magtanggol, and Amazing Earth.

Completing the Network's list of ratings drivers for September were Inday Will Always Love You, Bubble Gang, Saksi, Wowowin, 24 Oras Weekend, Imbestigador, My Special Tatay, The Stepdaughters, Contessa, Ika-5 Utos, Eat Bulaga, Kapuso Movie Night and Tadhana.

Kapuso programs also dominated the list of top programs in both Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, respectively taking 21 and 24 spots out of the top 30.
